Getting the BA Job You Want: Interview Questions from the Managers that hire BAs & Tips from the Recruiters that place BAs

How many times have you been looking for a job and felt like it was a nightmare?  The recruiter never calls you back; the job boards feel like a black hole, the job descriptions are vague, etc.  Then, you finally get an interview but you're not so sure what to expect or how to be?

We've all been there before.  It's frustrating.  Thankfully, there are some simple trips and tricks you can learn to ensure that you are well prepared to handle all the questions you might be asked during an interview.

At this meeting we will have a recruiter, who specializes in placing business analysts, speak about typical interview structure and questions.  They will help to shed some light onto to what hiring managers typically look for in a candidate.

After the introduction we will have the audience break up into interactive groups of 5 to 7 people.  There will be recruiters and hiring managers present with each group to help answer all of the questions you might have!  We will use the “Lean Coffee” model to structure our conversations.  Lean Coffee is a structured, but agenda-less meeting where the participants gather, build an agenda, and begin talking.  These conversations are helpful and productive because the agenda for the meeting was democratically generated.  See leancoffee.org for more information.

Some topics that you might consider to discuss:

  • Prepping for challenging questions (including examples from recent BA interviews)
  • The most effective ways to work with agencies/recruiters
  • A "behind the scenes" look at how the process works on the recruiters side
  • Resume writing, including formatting tips, keywords, and how to effectively "sell" your experience by your resume
  • How to get your resume in front of the hiring managers
  • Closing the interview (good questions to ask/how to get next steps/thank you emails)

Agenda:

6:00 - 6:15 - Registration, refreshments and networking
6:15 - 6:25 - Welcome and introductions
6:25 - 7:25 - Break up into individual groups
7:25 - 7:55 - General Discussion
7:55 - 8:00 - Wrap-up
